Meet Bart!
The face behind ‘What does Bart say’?

Great to have you here on my website, and a very warm welcome to my ‘Get to know me’ page! As the name of my blog already gives away, my name is Bart. I should probably keep my exact age to myself—haha!—but hey, if you are really curious, just ask and I might just tell you later.

I grew up in the southern part of the Netherlands, in the beautiful province of North Brabant, where I still live today with a lot of pleasure. If you ask any Dutch person what comes to mind when they think of North Brabant, their answer will undoubtedly be Brabantse gezelligheid—that typical, warm, and welcoming cozy atmosphere. And let that be exactly what I carry with me wherever I go! It honestly doesn’t matter where you take me; I can personally guarantee you that we are going to have a good time.

My love for attractions and theme parks started at a very young age. My father used to take my younger sister and me to the local funfairs on a regular basis, and at least twice a year, the entire family would pack up for a trip to the Efteling. I am pretty sure that is exactly where the spark was ignited. Things truly got out of hand when, as a little boy, I discovered the video game RollerCoaster Tycoon. I spent countless hours behind the screen, pouring my heart and soul into building the amusement park of my dreams. Now, fast forward years later, I am no longer constructing theme parks online. Instead, I visit them in the real world—both inside the Netherlands and far across the borders. I gladly travel quite the distance to experience them!

For a long time, I wrote articles for various other websites, but a few years ago, the creative itch to start writing again returned. Friends of mine kept saying, “Bart, why don’t you just start your own blog about theme parks? You are visiting them all the time anyway, it is highly interesting for others to read, and it leaves you with a beautiful archive of your own memories.” I doubted the idea for quite a while, but when the Efteling opened their new attraction Danse Macabre, I finally decided to give it a shot. And with success!

Finding the perfect name took some time, mainly because I wanted to look at the bigger picture. I wanted a scope that was much broader than just theme parks alone. Funfairs and regional day attractions are just as fascinating, and that is precisely how What does Bart say? was born. Personally, I am much better with written words than with video content. On top of that, I prefer to experience my days out through my own eyes rather than constantly staring at a camera screen. A blog is also a lot more timeless than a vlog. I think the pressure would simply be too high for me if I had to publish a video every single week. My blog posts are online whenever I feel the timing is right, completely free of any pressure.

With the Efteling being my ultimate home park, you can find me there regularly. However, during the sunny summer season, you might just run into me at a vibrant funfair, a different theme park, or a unique day attraction somewhere in the Netherlands or abroad. If you happen to see me walking by, please feel free to come over and say hi! I am always up for a good chat, and let’s be honest: a day out is always more fun together than alone :)!

If you have any questions left after reading this, if you just want to send a quick message, or if you think it would be interesting to start a collaboration together, please do not hesitate to reach out. Fill in the contact form below, and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
